How we verify
How we check our answers:
- Numbers come from official sources. Calories, sugar, caffeine and similar values come from the USDA FoodData Central database. Brand values come from the producer’s own page or official label. Strength (ABV) comes from the producer.
- We show the source. Under every tool result we name the source, link to it and show the date we checked it.
- Typical versus brand. A “typical” value describes a kind of drink, for example coffee liqueur. A brand value describes that product. We label which one you are seeing.
- When there is no official figure we say so. If a producer does not publish how long an opened bottle keeps, the page says so instead of guessing.
- Secondary sources are marked. If we use a retailer’s label listing or a photo of a label, the page says it is a secondary source. We replace it when the producer publishes the figure.
- Conflicts. When sources disagree we show the producer’s figure first and explain the difference.
- Calculations. One US standard drink is 14 g of pure alcohol (NIAAA). One UK unit is 8 g (10 ml). The formula is shown next to every calculator.
