What is chalap?
Chalap is a name used in Central Asia, and descriptions are not uniform. A Turkmen portal article about local drinks describes chalap as a Kyrgyz drink with a cow’s milk base, rich in bifidobacteria. The article gives no recipe. Another source describes chalap as a cold dairy-based drink or soup, made with suzma, water and salt. So the term may cover more than one local preparation, and we cannot give one standard recipe.

Do not mix up chalap, chal and shalap
The same article lists shalap as a separate Kazakh drink made from ayran, water and salt. Chalap and chal also sound alike but are different drinks, and sources sometimes blur them.
