What is black rhinoceros milk?
Black rhinoceros milk is the milk a female black rhino feeds her calf. It is not sold as a food or health product and has no known history as a human drink. The only published analysis we found, on a sample from mid-to-late lactation, found it very watery: only a trace of fat, less protein and calcium than cow's milk, but more lactose.

What is black rhino milk?
It is the milk a female black rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis) produces for her calf, like any mammal. It is not a product you can buy. Zoos and conservation groups study it mainly to make good hand-rearing formulas for orphaned calves.
What is in rhino milk?
A classic 1961 analysis of one African black rhino sample, taken in mid-to-late lactation, found only a trace of fat, less protein and calcium than cow’s milk, and more lactose. Published values for rhino milk vary with the stage of lactation and how the sample was taken. So treat any single number with care, and note that very few samples exist.

Is rhino milk used by people?
We found no credible record of people milking black rhinos or drinking their milk, and claims that African cultures used it as a daily supplement for centuries are unsupported. Rhinos are wild, dangerous and endangered, so milking them is not a practical food source.
What color is rhino milk?
We found no reliable source on the color of black rhino milk. Mammal milk in general is whitish; a low fat content tends to make milk look thinner and more watery.
Which animal milk is black?
We found no animal that makes black milk. If you see a black-colored milk product, it has been colored or flavored, for example with charcoal or black sesame.
Why does rhino milk matter?
